For the first time in many millennia, nature is smiling today. At last the “two legged creatures thou callest man” has finally looking seriously or at least seemingly concerned about the changing climate and its repercussions on human beings. And many hail this human concern and endeavor as the next best thing after the industrial revolution to have ever happened to mankind. But with my little brain I fail to understand what the colloquium about this climate change is!

Many times I tend to believe they are a ploy to avoid the most pressing issues momentarily or may be to say allow some breathing space in between the super important issues like terrorism, financial downslide etc. Had it been the case only, my tongue would not have wagged to spit venom here. But what intrigues me is that international political melodrama is being played over this climate change issue. Countries are setting very huge targets like reducing emission by 50-60% in two decades (EU declaration). But is it really possible? In today’s competitive world can any country afford to cut so much of emission? May be they can; but for me it is ridiculous. The Rio earth summit was inconclusive, so also the Kyoto summit. Now they are heading towards Copenhagen. And this time India has also joined the brigade as a warrior which is no less worthy of praise that has been bestowed upon Don Quixote. Two days back some news paper said Manomohan Singh has said India was planning to reduce the emission level by 20-25%. Ridiculously amazing, isn’t it!! We have many pressing problems to look into and I don’t need to recount them. So is it absolutely necessary to freak out our brains and burn a hole in our pocket on the veil of climate preservation so that more than three-fourth of the fund will be siphoned off to secret bank accounts in Switzerland! Any way, I can find at least one organization is getting some benefit, The Swiss bank. (Of course I am considering the legitimate matters only!! J).

Nature is not going to die because we emitting tons of carbon daily, nor do we ever reach a conclusion unanimously regarding the problem. We will only hang like a pendulum for years together and back biting each other. Why shall we need to take great and grandiose plans when we can start with very simple techniques like planting trees in unused land? Why can’t we be proactive in step –farming, organic farming, garden farming, social forestry etc? We don’t say a word when thousands of trees are felled down or hundreds of wild animals are poached. But when talking about big climate change as a global phenomena we are most verbose than any other time!!!

All I can say “ALL VANITY”.

Well said! but at the same time, we cant deny that the need has come to control carbon emissions. kno wt..some renowned geologists even say that there is no global warming. The very term 'global warming' is very much orchestrated by some overzealous experts! They say it's a cycle..colder period follows with hotter ones. History says that once Thames used to freeze in winter and English used to conduct European winter sports on Thames !! Maybe it's just a cycle as some of these geologists say..or maybe it's as serious as others make out.

India is perceived to be amongst the countries with high growth rate and hence needs to be committed to the cause of the environment. It is essential to put curbs at this stage so that we could clamp down emission to the desired level. We do have pressing problems that requires greater attention but this issue cannot be resolved through politicking alone but needs a more authentic action plan with periodic reviews.
