The proposed ban on stilettos in workplaces really make sense!

Continuous wearing of such inmpossibly high pointed heels defintely lead to many health hazards..
like severe back pain,

At the same time, wearing platforms to add few inches is a must for women who are short to boost up their spirits.
It's just a simple case of choosing the right shoes!

But..as usual..Women consider this as a threat against their freedom and equality!!

This triggered a question " who makes a better employee..women or men?"

Qualification: Different jobs demand different qualifications. Girls excel more in academics than boys.
In higher studies, men are the sure toppers!

But..academic excellence is just a token to get a job. Real qualification is in application and execution. In more elaborate terms..dedication, innovation, development, broader perspective and definitely professionalism.

Dedication:  Women are generally more dedicated. Because of their natural affinity with time-consciousness, tackling deadlines comes easier to them than men. Women are the BEST in observing regularity, work ethics, sincerity.

Innovation: Though women excel in acadamics, Men excel in innovative thinking and ideas. Some jobs demand and mostly rely on such innovative ideas..like Architecture, Film making and such..

Innovation needs adventurus and quirky thinking. Those qualities are second nature to men where as women fall short.

All Women have this singlemindedness that sometimes borders on narrow mindedness too. When it comes to Indian women, they lack broader perspective. I blame our society and culture for this character formation. From the cradle, girl children are taught to act submissive. Cultural pressures plant inhibitions in their minds. Societal pressures fuel this inhibitions which leads to narrow mindedness. Indian women are never taught or trained to have their own ideas or to make their own decisions. Some might say that today's women have every freedom possible. But..no..the sad truth is..inspite of their education and economic independence, indian women are still less individualistic and more submissive.

That's why they excel in clerical jobs and do fairly good in mid level jobs. They find travelling in a well-paved path easier than testing the depth of the unknown!

They lack courage to venture into new opportunities. They lack leadership qualities. Indra Nooyi, ICICI chief and Biocon VP are exceptions.

How many Lady entrepreneurs we have? Does the ratio of women population balance with the entrepreneurial one?

They expect support from others or some outside source [be it government or other] to test waters of the unknown! For example, Govt. formed women self-help groups and women in this group excel beyond expected levels.

Professionalism: Indian women definitely lack professionalism. There are 2 kinds of professionalism. By hook or crook, getting things done is one kind. Another is sticking to one's own ideologies and never compromise. Men have both these qualities. Women certainly dont!

On a personal level, Women get things done in their own way by hook or crook. They dont have many ideologies..even if they do, they dont stick to it to the end. they are ready to compromise.

On a professional level, They like to follow someone and hesitate to lead. They bring in their emotional disturbances to their workplace. They let their Personal woes color or affect their work. They expect favoritism just cz they r women! They hold grudges for a longer period. Professionalism is an alien word to them. Favoritism, petty jealousies, gossip, using feminine wiles, obstinacy , tears are some of their irritating qualities!

Men are far far better than women when it comes to dresscode! sensible attire is what is needed in the workplace. Most offices are forced to put a dresscode just cz of Women and their distracting, revealing clothes!

In short, women make better employees, provided the job demands nothing innovative. They are good in clerical and mid level jobs.

Men make 'the best' employees..their unconventional, unruly ways and their arrogance, their sense of humor..everything turn them into a very good entrepreneurs.

Of course..regarding women, exceptions are there.

Being a career woman myself, I still stand by my above view. Cz..i'm a Boss too!:)

I agree with your analysis with regards to contemporary women. Women are still victims of circumstances. With the passage of time the thought process changes. When there is a level playing field skills will cease to be gender specific.

From a personal experience i can say when their careers start of things are on an even keel, however with women things start to taper of a bit(on the job front) when they marry, the onus of attending to dometic chores falls on them & its becomes imperative for them to make sacrifices on the professional front so as to attend to their personal front..my mom & dad both started as lecturers , however my mom(though academically better than my dad smilies/smiley.gif ) had to opt out of her job.
Umbrella am not entirely convinced with your 'men being innovative and women being not(intrinsically i.e.) theory' of urs..however many a men would love to bits the adjectives u have used smilies/smiley.gif & you can safely include me in that bracket

A very interesting analysis umbrella and I agree with all your points. But one thing i can say, this unprofessionalism is more in case of married women.

Very good composition... keep it up !

Interesting analysis...Kudos..though i personally feel it would be difficult to generalize so many things about both men and women....would add few points to put another perspective to this new debate:
1) As per Indian thinking is concerned regarding women it is changing now and result would be visible in another decade or so, i am sure we will have more CEO's and entrepreneurs.
2) At my work place i have observed that women too are innovative in the same as men..in fact better many times

Still there are problems where there is no level playing field for both but that is limited to only few areas, today we have more women civil servants, politicians, doctors, engineers.

@PP - thank yousmilies/smiley.gif

@Santosh - I think the general attitude of women is the main problem. Society and culture just helps in fine-tuning. wht say?

@ Asim - Ofcourse women sacrifice their professional life for personal life after marriage. but what stops them from acting professional when they are in office? being married or single is not at all the problem. Their attitude need to change a lot. Thanks for ur input.

@Domarp ..well..i agree with u there r more women in civil service. How many women IAS officers have made their name known thru their excellent work? ofcourse there are many women doctors. But how many lady doctors are known for their expertise in their field? except a few in gynec, they are litellay unknown. oh yes..politicians..how many made it to the top? even those who made it to the top [ on their own] act very autocratic..not at all people friendly! How many women engineers are known for their expertise? let's leave software engineers alone..cz there r dime-a-dozen..but even in that field, many a men made their mark! wt say?..thanks for ur input.

Well said Umbrella.

Yes, we may be hearing that women are coming of age and other points but facts prove all. Women are laggards when it comes to innovation (esp in problem solving) and adjust with rapidly changing environments and its a hard truth (we are not concerned here about some exceptions). Also this discussion is not about the number of women in high posts or something.

You can see the number of noble laureates, scientists. Woman hardly gets represented there.

But woman do have creativity in some fields like fashion designing, drawing, painting & art work etc but the sad part is our society haven't utilized their talents fully.

Just want to add few figures..this year itself 5 women got nobel prize for their work in economics,Literature,Chemistry and Physiology.I agree in numbers they might be less but picture would be different in another decade or so...so innovation is here..
Further my contention is that people in today's competitive world have to be talented and innovative to reach at the top whatever the field may be....politics,business or any service...if in politics numbers of women is high means there is something in them.

Plus still in third world countries women do not have opportunities which consist of more than three-fourth of the world's population..so it would be incorrect to judge them...if provided they can be equally innovative.

Sorry for being late ... but this one was interesting! a woman employee may be tricky, but the woman boss seems better. At least I enjoyed a wonderful professional rhythm with my last boss who was a woman. Now, having said that, I can't really comment on stilettos or platforms since I don't see a need for them (male reasoning).

But then, just wait for a few more years before the sugar coat to praise a feminine effort will fade out. And a realistic and truthful criticism about women professionals will emerge. That will be interesting to see.
