“Highway on My Plate”, “Italian Khana”, “Chak le India”, “Lock, Stock and two hot Tikhhas”, the new generation cookery shows, are now presenting food in a really interesting style. The way the big fat hosts in the program “Highway on my plate” move around all over the country and devour on the tastiest of the food, it will make you fall love with food again. “Highway on my plate” actually covers entire India and brings us the specialty of all corners of our country. We get to see the variety of food served in our country. Personally I felt like I still have so many delicious cuisines to try in my life! The rich food prepared by the chef in a program called “Lock, Stock and two hot Tikhhas”, makes your mouth watery and all you need is just a kitchen to try out his yummy recipe. With cities becoming more cosmopolitan, now in southern corner also you can enjoy the northern rich food. Any city you go you can find 1 south Indian – Andhra style restaurant, 1 Kerala special hotel, Bengali sweet stall, Punjabi dhaba etc.
Found anything interesting so far? I am sure there will be figure conscious cry pots, getting tensed about their size zero figure. Sad to say but now-a-days people though love eating, have stopped enjoying their food. Everyone is now worried about what is going to happen to their waist size. I feel sad when on my birth day I offer sweets to teammates and they take a pinch from a huge ladoo (gfn formality!) saying I m on diet. On diet doesn’t mean fasting I hope. I see gradually people are losing their interest in food. Especially in the female fraternity, more than their liking towards the food, they are bothered about their boyfriend’s interest in them. “My boyfriend doesn’t like flaps around me”. Big deal! I can share few of my experiences so far. Most common one, girls going to McDonald's and KFCs and asking for burger without cheese (why eat burger then?). Same is with the lovely dosas. Have you seen ladies ordering Butter masala dosa, WITHOUT butter? Heard asking for “puris with less oil?” Can anyone please tell me how to fry puris in water? There are many such extremely fabulous dishes which we make utterly tasteless by selecting “less oil, no ghee, and no butter”. I have a friend who actually wipes out the extra oil and butter of dosa with a tissue paper! I don’t know if we should really be so conscious. Our Indian food is not only rich in taste but is also quite nutritious and healthy. Each variety of food has its own flavor and aroma in it. I don’t understand the purpose of starving in the name of “dieting”. After all, balancing your food in a planned manner in order to maintain equality can also be named as dieting. We should know when to eat what. But we should never start disliking our food in the name of being over concerned. For me what matters is the satisfaction that we get after devouring a tasty mouth watering dish than to work out in the gym for having a size 0. There is a slight difference between dieting and starving.
As a girl, I never keep myself away from chocolates, ice-creams, sweets, heavy calories etc. I think I am doing justice to my mouth and my desire by eating rather than punishing myself in the gym. To be healthy is good but to taste the umpteen varieties of food we have in different parts of India is even better.
