It was afternoon at around three. I was having the usual chai with a 'cig'. The trademark refreshments of the S/E.

Just as I puffed out two rows of smokes, along came a small boy running to the same shop. With fists tightly clenched. His eyes filled with excitement and an expression of achivement and success in his face. He said ' Char.. manggggggg.. fillllllllll!' I did not understand at first what that kid was asking but the shop keeper was used to such sounds. He immediately grabbed 4 candies of 'mango fill' and gave him. The boy tossed the 2/- coin which he was holding and took all the 4 at once. His hands so small not even able to carefully guard all the four falling from his hand. He then very carefully took one and precisely kept remaining in his shirt pocket which was as big his heart. The best part was his triumphant feeling showing on his face as he as aquired something which others only long to.

I know this reminds us of our childhood, but each every action of theirs is so adorable. I just kept looking at him wondering when would he eat the rest. And will everytime his face show the same expression as it was during the first one.

Then after my time with the cigarette I was walking back to the office. I saw another set of kids running around a small water fountain and crackling at the small droplets of water that fell on their faces. Another adorable scene. Its not that I like kids or so, because I hate them. They are indeed annoying, but when they are happy you can look through their eyes that they are indeed happy. That's what makes us feel good and peaceful. We can never see the happiness in any of the grown ups. Our faces are covered with so many layers even without our knowledge that we can't see if one is really happy.

I realised how important can the childhood days be. If one doesn't enjoy then one will never know how does it feel to be happy from inside. As children we would never have bothered to know what are the various emotions of a human being. But after growing up we understand each one of them even when nobody is around to teach us. Yes, growing up is fun, being a grown up is not.

Thanks,

Bharat

True about innocent happiness while growing up; but why so cynical about being a grown up?

When we see the kids enjoying around us, the most natural reaction is a smile that blossoms up on our lips even without our consciously knowing it. This smile is still something I haven't understood. Even in the gloomiest of moods, I have seen the smile come up. I need to search deeper for the origins of those.

Grown ups carry a lot of baggage, are victims of mindsets, have preconceived notions, necessarily discriminate. Situations have to filter through these to elicit laughter, joy or any emotion. Life is like that!! Experience & exposure does have its shortcomings.
