Yesterday was online after a long time, one of my friends asked “What are the plans for tomorrow?” “Tomorrow is Sunday, I will sleep the whole day” I replied enthusiastically. “Are, I am taking about your plans for Valentine’s Day, not your sleeping pattern” she said. Then it came to me about the importance and sacrament attached to this day as tomorrow is 14th Feb.
We need a reason to celebrate. Don’t us! The cupid has finally struck and lands itself on 14th Feb “Valentine's day". Though this concept of expressing love heads to way back in early century and is considered to be sacred to all people in the west. Today it is holding its relevance all over the world. Young couples found cuddled in love and vowing to support each other emotionally making us feel the how sacred love and relationship can be, however the truth is not same for all. Increase in number of divorce and relationship falling apart is not in consonance with this signifying the ephemeral nature of Valentine. English dictionary describes “Valentine” as “sweetheart chosen to receive a gift on Saint Valentine’s Day”. Though this meaning is very much discerning and is recognized by all of us but are we really committed to this? We have a gift of express our feeling, desires, love and emotions; this is what differentiates us from animals. Today we live in a complex world where our dreams and desires take a toll and drive us towards it, this has metamorphosed our thinking our approach towards life and we have forgotten our value system. People might shrug and say what value system we are talking about so far it hasn’t delivered what we wanted. Then the question comes “what do we really want?” a good career, a beautiful companion and sense of security. It is often seen that today marriages are failing among people who are economically more prosperous, then the trend says that we are more secular and independent.
Please spare me if I am sounding cynic but then truth is far from what we want to see. It is better today we realize the essence of our life to live with harmony, trust and create the true sense of companionship which is genuine and not derived, if not at least give a thought to it. Probably we get befuddled with meanings and priorities of life. Then again the meaning of Valentine’s Day is misinterpreted by people who oppose. People oppose because they feel it degrades our values, our culture, and our beliefs. Well, everything which integrates society is should be espoused and embraced. Valentine can be any body it can be your friend, parents and siblings so it is for one and for all. In fact one should live with the feeling that everyday as a valentine day why only 14th Feb!
