Rangoli, Jungle book, Surabhi, Malgudi Days, Dekh bhai Dekh, Turning point, Disney hour – this is what television meant to me, when I was in my school days. I still remember the joy with which me and my brother used to watch dekh bhai dekh. Only one channel, no RCU (remote control unit) in hands, just sit back and enjoy what's on DD1. But with real fast pace I think all of us walked into Roadies, Splitsvilla, Big Boss, Office Office, Walk the talk, Khana khazana, Mega structures, Friends, Indian Idol and the list goes on. N number of categories and in that N number of programs on different channels. Serials (as in Dharavahiks), Reality shows, Talent hunt shows, Informative programs, Travel related stuffs, the viewer has no idea what to choose and how to spend his/her time. Present day television has everything you name to entertain you.
One such show which has taken my treasured time is Dance India Dance, Zee tv, Friday and Saturday 9.30 pm. Many might not have heard of it. So let me tell you what is it all about. It is a talent hunt show for the best dancer of India, who can represent any form of dance. The hunt began with the three Dance masters (Terrence Lewis, Geeta Kapur, Remo D' Souza)auditioning in different cities for a preliminary level scan. After two round of selection/rejection processes, they could finally end up with 18 candidates. All these 18 got a taqdeer ki topi, to the level 1. From here onwards the candidates along with the three masters had to bring upon the show with their talents creating magic together. The 18 were divided into 3 groups, 6 each, under 3 choreographers. The forthcoming episodes were just what I call an entertainment deal. Each Friday and Saturday night, I was curiously waiting to see what is new this time. And each time I was served with a new dish. Each choreographer, each and every contestant has something sparkling, refreshing for the viewers.

What is so special about this show to discuss here? Well apart from being my favorite, this show has its own unique flavor. It differs from all god-knows-why-so-popular shows. To point out few, let me start with the Masters itself. All the three are extremely talented in choreography, though they might not be all commercially successful, but the variety and newness in their art amazes you. The smartness with which Terrence choreographs a famous western form of dance - salsa, the concepts of Remo and the typical bollywood taste in Geeta's pieces are the essence of this show. These people are strictly into business, they are not engaged fighting with each other proving their candidate is better, rather whatever judgment they do, is purely on basis of their work (actually I was tired of seeing Alka yagnik & Abhijit, Himesh Reshmiya & Bappi lehri). Any reality show you name it, more than talent everything else is judged, but DID is a place where contestants get ample chance for nourishment and improvement. The grand master (the dynamic, generous, ever charming Mithun Da), is the cherry on the icing. The way he conducts and modulates the show, shows his maturity and intelligence both. The anchors of the show, Jay and Soumya are just apt for this show maintaining the standard of a good show . At least they are not like those Indian Idol anchors, who just kill your patience by taking 5 commercials in 10 minutes just to declare who all are in danger zone (imagine how many they take for announcing the winner!).

As a whole, this show I feel has a good standard maintained through out and a definite worth watch on your weekends. And for those who actually follow this show, I request them to share with me their personal favorite contestant. Mine is Prince of Locking and Popping, Prince and favorite master is Terrence Lewis. Please let me know your favorites.
