One man army to defy the system

Movie - Sarkar (2005)

Actor - Amitabh Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Kay Kay
Menon & Others

Director - Ram Gopal Verma

Tagline - There are no Rights and Wrongs. Only Power.

A truthful, honest, adamant, stubborn and morally upright criminal. But inside this coconut shelled heart there is a soft corner where dwells a human, who can’t think injustice to the poor and underprivileged. People consider him as their messiah. He has all the love for them and never bothers to sacrifice his personal space. He works for complaints & sufferings of who are trapped & helpless in this corrupt system. These Do-Gooder acts of his has gathered some sections of the political class against him. They envy his absolute power without accountability.  His opponents gather and start to hatch a plan to get this old nail out of their way.

He acts to his desires, fancies and whims but never interferes with the work of others. He just does whatever he feels right. A man of principles and ideals blessed with sheer power of intuition, which senses him for the upcoming dangers. Being shrewd enough to manipulate his opponent he always ready to play his cards by manipulating the opponent’s weakness and ruthless in his pursuit against the system. Najdikeyian faida dekhne se pehele door ka nuksan dekhna jaroori he. (Before trying to gain the close profits, try to visualize the losses of the distant future).

The determination & patience for his work is exposed when he tries to recover from the mess in his personal life and his opponents are gaining edge over him by executing the flawless hatch against him. He is blessed with two sons; elder one is corrupt to the neck and the younger one is naïve enough to defeat his father’s perpetrators. While Subhash adores both his sons, he shows his open disappointment for elder one, whose language, childish actions, and his affair with a Bollywood actress named Sapna are just few of his wrong actions. He misutilizes in the name of the power wielded in his father’s hand. He threatens and spreads terror in the business capital gets his pound of flesh. At last Subhash Nagre takes the painful decision to ostracize his own son. Time and situation makes his younger son (US educated one) sharp, competent and witty resembling all the features of his father.  He brilliantly executes the plans to counter effect the hatch planned against his father’s rivals and brings successfully his father out of the mess by playing with his own life.

Most of the political class misunderstands Subhash Nagre and his honest intentions. In this rat race for the power everybody becomes blinded by the illusion of money. There arises a man who aims to clean this mess. He takes the system into his hand and enters the unchartered area where people hardly dare to enter without any profit motives. This man never aims for power but loves to fire others shoulders. He backs a candidate and does all to get him into power with his public support, then fires his volley of shots from his backed candidate’s shoulders. The audience is left into a dilemma whether this absolute power is good or harmful for the society upon which this man is ruling subconsciously. Subhash Nagre at any point of time never misutilizes his power.

Subhash Nagre at many point of time through the movie expresses his wish to get his sons out of the stingy & bloodsucking politics. Life has its other ways; his younger willingly sacrifices his career and pledges to salvage his father out of the mess. The weak link in his family is his elder son. His rivals manipulate this situation & the father son equation and use this to their advantage. They use him to kill his father. This fool is trapped to their bait.

Being inspired by “The Godfather” Ram Gopal Verma has taken a daring attempt and made a good movie. This one can be counted as one of the finest performance by Amitabh bachchan and Abhishek Bachan. Oh! Boy the dialogues are brilliant and the direction is awesome. The scene relating to the explanation of power at their dinner table is unarguably the best scene of the movie. One can relate the whole of the movie with the life story of Bala Sahib Thakrey. The movie has all the ingredients to be as successful one. If you have missed this one, I would recommend to all the Bollywood movie lovers. This one can also be a good watch for the Hollywood movie fans (just make sure that you get the good subtitles). Go ahead and watch Subhash Nagre taking it all on his shoulders for his honest and noble intentions and standing like a huge barrier to protect the poor.
