Movie – Batman Begins Director – Christopher Nolan Starcast - Christian Bale, Michael Caine, Liam Neeson, Tom Wilkinson, Morgan Freeman, Gary Oldman and Others. Awards - Nominated for Oscar. Another 6 wins & 38 nominations See more. Christopher Nolan has achieved what Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher couldn’t in yester years with The Caped Crusader, Batman. In 2005, Christopher Nolan and Christian Bale came together to give a new beginning to the biggest and darkest superhero of all times, the Dark Knight, Batman. An immensely majestic and realistic plot, rock solid foundation, storming performances and scintillating thrills, Batman Begins is the mother of all superhero movies till date. The Gotham darkness, the charismatic Bruce Wayne and the unstoppable Batman, witness the fight against injustice and corruption like never before. The words “I am Batman” in Batman Begins marks the return of the silent guardian, the watchful protector, the Dark Knight... When his parents are killed, millionaire Bruce Wayne (Christian Bale) relocates to Asia where he is mentored by Henri Ducard (Liam Neeson) with the methods to fight evil. When learning about the plan to wipe out evil in Gotham City by Ducard, Bruce prevents this plan from getting any further and heads back to his home. Back in Gotham with the help of his only family Alfred (Michael Caine), Wayne’s trusted employee Lucius Fox(Morgan Freeman) and officer Jim Gordon (Gary Oldman), Bruce adapts the image of a bat conquering his own fear and strikes into the heart of criminals and corrupts the drug lord Carmine Falcone and mentor Henri Ducard as Gotham’s protector known as 'Batman'. Christian Bale gives his career best performance as the Caped Crusader. The confused and incorruptible millionaire on its path of becoming the symbol of hope for justice and fear for crime in Gotham fits with Bale’s top notch and extraordinary display. From Michael Keaton in 1989 to George Clooney 1997 none could portray the Dark Knight so convincingly that it stayed with you forever but Bale successfully outcasts every single one of them with sheer brilliance and gravity. His dominating voice and on-screen persona makes him the much needed perfect Batman for the superhero to bounce back with a bang. Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman and Gary Oldman complement perfectly with Christian Bale. Liam Neeson and Tom Wilkinson are superb as Batman’s nemesis.
Besides the nail biting climax there are definitely other edge of the seat thrilling moments to watch out for. Bruce willingly confronts his fear of the bats in the cave. Batman shows himself to Falcone saying “I am Batman”. Batman escapes from the cops saving Rachel. Batman prepares himself for the final assault. Last 40 minutes will give you a blast out of your seat like you had ever imagined with twists and turns, ultra cool gadgets (Batmobile) and breath taking action sequences. One of the major positives that work magic for Batman Begins is the music so powerful and intense by Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard. The adrenaline rush drama becomes broadly defining with a great background score by the duo. Superhero movies had lost their credibility with mindless action craps and worthless paper thin plots like Superman, Spiderman, etc until Christopher Nolan arrived as a savior for the franchise. He has not just hit back with a much better version but has made other directors to take upon such genres more seriously. Batman Begins is not just about hard core action, it’s the story and the character of Bruce Wayne transforming into the Dark Knight. It has the critics appeal along side a dramatic ride for genuine moviegoer. You don’t expect action pouring in the very moment you start watching, but it takes time as it slowly gains rock solid momentum. Mark my words that time is worth every single penny and you just keep asking for more and more.
I have seen viewers appreciating The Dark Knight without understanding the very soul, but trust me you cannot engulf the amount of power in The Dark Knight without understanding the emotional complexity of Bruce Wayne and Batman in the Nolan’s epic foundation, Batman Begins. Finally you come out taking the punching line “It’s not who I’m underneath, but what I do that defines me”. Rating – 8/10 Trackback(0)
