“Uncommon saga of a common man!!’

Movie - A Wednesday

Director - Neeraj Pandey

Cast - Naseruddin Shah, Anupam Kher, Jimmy Shergil and Aamir Bashir

Please don’t get  swayed by the hype, You can call the movie is a big fuss out of nothing. Having stalwarts like  Naseeruddin Shah or Anupam Kher will not make any Tom-Dick-Harry a good movie. A creepy plot, atrocious ground  work in script writing and a visibly uninterested and sleepy Jimmy Sherggil are the high points of the movie if I can  say!! And they leave no stones unturned to make the movie a disaster. I seriously fail to understand how many  times our erudite film-masterminds will cling to the feel-good factor or the bravado of a common man, to swim  across the Box Office? Please give me a break.

The movie starts with a dangerous looking a name less Naseeruddin Shah wearing the Bush Shirt of our own R.K Laxman’s common man’s common shirt, roaming around the heart of Mumbai city and leaving his huge traveling bags in important places like railway station, police station etc. Then this common man conveniently posits himself at the top of an under-construction building and with his mastery over gadgetry brings havoc in the head quarters of police commissioner. He wants the release of four dreaded criminals and in the bargain he will give the information about where he has planted bombs. It only unravels later that he wants to kill them only because like a common man he wants to kill the cockroaches that enter his house. Bomb plant is only a hoax call to make the commissioner dance to his tunes. Fair enough! And I like the O Henry like twist also. But my dear Sirs… what is there in the plot that will bind you for 100 minutes and coupled with serious fallacies… after the interval the movie really becomes a torture to eye and ear, not to speak about mind.

One cannot ignore the technical flaws in the movie. A common man who travels by the local train second class compartment becomes so technically sound that he will put an IITian to shame… I don’t think it is impossible but highly improbable. And the commissioner of police relying on two inspectors and directly interacting with them while not even once he talked with an ACP or DCP. This is also something ridiculous. And where on earth a senior inspector is called SI?? How come a police man would shoot a fellow police man in his service revolver because what I know is that the police have to provide account of the bullets fired from their guns. Like wise there are a lot of technical flaws which does not need to be glorified. And the
funny hacker. I seriously don’t understand why Bollywood portrays hackers as small school drop out kids. And the way he behaves in the movie is really funny. A valiant attempt to borrow from the utterly useless Die Hard series but too funny and boring. Have I already talked about the moustache of the CM. Man you should go to the movie to have a glimpse of the CM moustache. It is so hilarious. While making a movie one should look to the nitty-gritty of the movie. (My personal opinion though)

Acting wise Naseeruddin Sir was marvelous as always though I would have liked to see a more of common man in him than the mere checked shirt. Anupam Kher was OK. Rest others are below average. What I liked the best about the movie is the angle in which camera shots have been taken. It was really great and makes the most of the first half. There are some hints of humor also. But I did not like them. Back ground score was average. In nutshell I can say, if you don’t have any better option on a Friday night and you have to watch a movie to kill time, then go for it.

Rating: - 7/10 (I am being a lot liberal)
