Movie – Green Zone Director – Paul Greengrass Starcast - Matt Damon, Khalid Abdalla, Brendan Gleeson, Greg Kinnear, Amy Ryan and Others. The duo did it back in 2007 with Oscar Winner, The Bourne Ultimatum and they return with a blast in a sensational war thriller, Green Zone. Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass are two such names who deliver high voltage pulsating entertainment when they unite for a thriller project. Inspired by the book Imperial Life in the Emerald City by journalist Rajiv Chandrasekaran, Green Zone is a rare impulsive combination of facts and fiction behind political mismanagement. The sheer brilliance of Matt Damon, terrific execution of Paul Greengrass and prolific hand held camerawork; Green Zone is a perfect political war autopsy exposing the faulty culprit under the self made mask as it has its own share of political criticism about being anti American... Post American invasion of Iraq in 2003 Chief Warrant Officer Roy Miller (Matt Damon) and his men are charged with finding the weapons of mass destruction, whose existence justified American involvement. Veteran CIA operative Martin Brown (Brendan Gleeson) tells Miller that there are no weapons and it is a deception to allow the Americans to take over the country and install a puppet leader. Wall Street Journal reporter Lawrie Dayne (Amy Ryan) reveals Miller that Clark Poundstone (Greg Kinnear), Pentagon Special Intelligence told her he had secret talks in Jordan with an important Iraqi, code-named Magellan, who told him about the weapons. With his injure Iraqi translator Freddy (Khalid Abdalla), Miller goes deep into investigating Magellan’s true identity and hunts down the secret behind the existence of weapons of mass destruction.
Matt Damon has always been a revelation to watch. Be it the amnesiac assassin Jason Bourne from Bourne Series or rugby team captain Francois Peinaar from Invictus or confused yet stubborn Agent Miller from Green Zone it is an absolute thrill to watch him deliver every single one of them. Apart from his drama movie performances he is simply brilliant in all his thriller outings and Green Zone is a perfect addition to his classic collection. Khalid Abdalla does well in his short version. Watch out for the Bourne trademark disappearance in the crowd at the end. Paul Greengrass has his own defining style of film making his novel adaptations are truly relishing. After The Bourne Ultimatum, Green Zone is one of Greengrass’s best book adaptations. War movies involving US and Iraq have came in showers since past two to three years but none could focus in the raw Intel and simultaneously depict the real scenario but this one does it with a flawless plotline. Music by John Powell is as good as in earlier Bourne movies. Green Zone is nothing less than watching a Bourne movie, it has the look and feel of a more subtle and intelligent Bourne in Baghdad. I will recommend the viewers not to consider it as an action flick from trailers but witness it as an engaging path to hidden reality. Rating - 7.5/10
