Mediocre Tale of Love & Seduction

Director - Marcel Langenegger

Star Cast - Hugh Jackman, Ewan McGregor, Michelle Williams, Maggie Q, Natasha Henstridge and Others

Deception is a genuine romantic thriller that we must have witnessed around a hundred times, in fact there are movies much better in such genres like Basic Instinct, Perfect Murder, Sliver, etc. Hugh Jackman has got immense potential, despite he is screwing his talent in such kind of B-grade movies. Ewan McGregor’s career graph is in a decreasing trend but after Deception he might be totally ripped off...

Jonathan McQuarry (Ewan McGregor) a workaholic accountant is trapped by a trickster named Wyatt Bose (Hugh Jackman). Wyatt at first gets close to Jonathan, becomes his best friend and knowingly exchanges his cell with that of Jonathan before leaving for London. Then calls in Wyatt’s cell are received by Jonathan asking “Are you free tonight?” Jonathan then enjoys every worldly pleasure that he could have ever dreamt for. He hooks up with some hottest girls in the town like Natasha Henstridge, Maggie Q, Michelle Williams, etc. This one night stands lead to a dangerous conclusion when a girl named S (Michelle Williams) is kidnapped on the same night when Jonathan brings her to a hotel room. He starts investigating about S as he unknowingly falls for her. In the mean time Simone Wilkinson (Natasha Henstridge) with whom Jonathan spend his first night, was strangled to death by a wire of the tennis racket used by Jonathan while playing tennis with Wyatt. Then Wyatt comes into picture and starts black mailing Jonathan using the photos of his hook ups. Jonathan starts transferring funds to Wyatt’s account as per his demands. And finally they end up without a single penny in either’s hand.

As far as acting is concerned Hugh Jackman steals the show but he has hardly got any chance to prove himself. Ewan enacts his role to sincerity; still nothing works in his favor. Weak plot and a flimsy script destroys Hugh and Ewan’s chances to show their talents. Natasha Henstridge, Maggie Q and Michell Williams are used as glam dolls for audience attraction.

Definitely not the type that I expected to be, bring a CD, press the fast forward button and in no time you will forget about the movie. That's what Deception deserves, nothing more than an average one timer.

Rating – 4/10
