Long Live Joker’s Legacy

Movie - The Dark Knight

Director - Christopher Nolan

Starcast - Christian Bale as Batman, Late Heath Ledger as the Joker, Aaron Eckhart as Harvey Dent

Awards - Won 2 Oscars. Another 76 wins & 58 nominations more

Years back we have been witnessing hundreds of superhero movies and enjoying their breath taking action sequences, but time has changed. It’s been 3 months since the release of this epic adventure but still it continues to rule the hearts of millions, it’s the one, the only “The Dark Knight”. Conquering the US box office charts and the number one spot from July 20, 2008 to August 10, 2008, The Dark Knight has set a milestone for ages to come...

When the teaser came up, no one would have ever imagined that a movie of such cadre could even stay in people’s mind after a while. But it unexpectedly came out of no where and conquered limitless heights. An action crime thriller, critically acclaimed, breaking indefinite records and creating history, this is extravagant.

It’s hard to believe that one man; only one man had such a huge impact that could create ripples in Hollywood history and generations to remember, Late Heath Ledger. He should have been alive just to have a look at the legend that he had gave birth to. Ledger had poured life into the biggest villain that Hollywood can ever present in the big screen, The Joker. Considered to be the most frightening and sinister portrayal Ledger threw himself into the Joker with utter conviction. Once the dust has settled it compels you to realize that what an immense talent has been lost following Ledger’s death earlier this year. A posthumous Oscar win, Ledger is in the driving seat for Academy Awards 2008.

Christian Bale gives a perfect portrayal of a confused and a mixed blend of good and evil nature in the Caped Crusader, a billionaire who fights to protect Gotham City from injustice. Bale made the character look much more powerful and commanding than those in the earlier ones. He had received a positive response from Batman Begins for which he accepted to reprise the role in the sequel The Dark Knight. And with no doubts he stood up to every ones expectations. You can never imagine a best person other than Bale to become the Caped Crusader. His tremendous acting gave the perfect accuracy in claiming the balance of righteousness and insanity in the character at the same time.

Hans Zimmer and James Newton Howard have delivered the most mesmerizing background score they have given till date. The music just kept on flowing with the darkness and complexity revolving around the characters. Starting from the Joker’s and Batman’s intro, the intensifying Joker-Batman encounters, score when Batman desperately uses his Batpod to stop Joker from reaching to Harvey Dent and the one used at the climax when Batman is being chased are simply out of the world. Not to forget the awesome ecstatic theme every time the Joker shows up.

Christopher Nolan, the creator, the genius deserves all the accolades and rewards for gifting such a masterpiece. An edge of a seat entertainer, a gripping and extravagant tale of hatred and darkness all it is because of a great director nailing an epic for years to remember. The thrills, the realism, the twists, the dramatic scenes, the fight sequences, the dialogues, the gadgets all of them just blows you out of your seat. Nolan brothers have smashed their brilliance to its extreme.

Dark Knight proves that not only does the big action craps and mind blowing special effects can win the battle all the way. With an estimated budget of $180 million, Dark Knight has grossed $1,001,921,825 worldwide breaking limitless records in its path. It holds the record to pass the $500 million barrier in the fastest time, in 43 days (compared to Titanic's 98 days). The Dark Knight is currently the highest grossing movie of 2008 in domestic box office and worldwide and the second highest grossing film domestically of all time with a total of $527,441,809, behind only Titanic with $600,788,188. History has been created. Watch out for the 2008's strongest Oscar contender.

Lastly as it is said, “He is the hero Gotham deserves, he is a silent guardian, a watchful protector, The Dark Knight”.

A masterpiece in all possible terms.
