We've embarked on the beginning of the last days of the age of oil. A chill ran down my spine as I explored the implications of this statement, by Mike Bowlin, chairman and CEO of ARC, on human race. ‘This day isn’t gonna come so soon man!’ I calmed myself so that I can grab myself a shut-eye before I could ‘embark’ on another day in office. I got up next day to find uncanny silence in my neighborhood. I went down to only to find that electric cars had taken over the roads which till yesterday had the ‘Nanos’ and the ‘Indicas’ all driving over them!! Before I could restore sanity into my eyes, on my way back to my room, I located a huge biogas plant installed in our society backyard. When the hell did this erection come about? I thought helplessly. The guard told me that this structure has been there for long and has been the main supplier of power for our society since then. Either I was in a state of inebriation or the whole world had conspired to play games with me.
I went up for a quick shower only to find the geyser truant from its usual hub. ‘Dude just turn on the tap and solar heater would provide the warm water!!’ I thanked my rommie for imparting this much needed enlightenment. Then I tried to reestablish some sort of routine into this chaotic morning so I grabbed a newspaper to get a daily dose of current affairs. ‘India’s largest hydroelectric plant installed in pune’ ‘Coimbatore wind mills provide electricity to 100 villages in Tamil Nadu’ ‘Geothermal plant in India becomes largest electricity supplier in the world’ These headlines were in sync with the morning events but for me it was the last nail in the coffin that would prove my insanity. But then it all changed!! Because suddenly….. …...I got up. It was a dream!! More than a dream it was my journey into the future, the future that our descendents would live in. I was sweating but I was relieved, not to come out of this mad world but to see our future brightly lit! To round this off I would like to list a line by Gregory David Roberts from SHANTARAM that ‘A dream is a place where wish and fear meet. When wish and fear are exactly the same we call dream a nightmare.’ I sincerely hoped that day that my wishes come true while my deep fears are laid to rest.
