Difference B/W Happiness, Satisfaction & Peace? 2 Years, 2 Months ago Karma: -1
Lets discuss to find the life on difference between these three words.

It will be helpful if we try to deduce the line of difference in terms of Howard Roark (Protagonist of The Fountainhead).

During his days of struggle, Was he happy or satisfied or at peace?

All three?

These three words seem to be cousins.

Yes they all seem related to each other but there seem to be rising many possibilities

Can a person be happy but not at peace?
Similarly can a person be satisfied but not happy?

Or the various possibilities of these above conditions....

Peace= a transcendental state of mind! A state where the mind has no warring sentiments, no lashing waves beating on the shore, no restlessness, no hankering, no ill-feeling for anyone. A state of resignation/acceptance Blessed are those who find peace within and without. Almost a permanent status.
Satisfaction= a good feeling resulting from a delicious dinner, a visual treat, a sense of accomplishment, pleased with the outcome of some venture, deal, progress of a game/business etc. A feeling of content- a great sensation. Necessary for attaining peace. A long-lasting pleasant sensation.
Happiness= a feeling of elation, lifting the spirits, making the world look like a wonderful place, all complaints, grudges forgotten in that frame of mind. Can be often temporary, illusory and short-lived. But great to have the capacity to feel this elation- the source can be unbelievably simple like watching a beautiful sunrise or listening to the songbird.

I was discussing this thing with a friend and he put forward his views something like this

The connotations of happiness & satisfaction are analogous to wht is very common to us as-weather & climate. happyness is for the moment while satisfaction is a general feeling. peace is a very ambiguous description of the state of mind at any given instant!

Hi Guys, I fail to understand the modus operandi of the discussion and what connotation does it have with our friend Howard Roark!! Any way I am going to put my views. For all practical purposes let's accept PPMani madam's definition; though i have certain reservations. I don't think on the thesis that these are cousins. They are as widely different from each other as i am from the administrator. They are basically arranged as a staircase, one above the other. My understanding is happiness is the basic level feeling. Satisfaction is the level over it and peace is the uppermost level. I may be wrong but i tend to associate them with id, ego, superego.

id:- is about me. It is all about my suppressed feelings which I could not fulfill because of the social pressure; taboos or something else. But when i could in some way fulfill the expectations of my ID i get happiness.

superego:- it is the demand of the externality on me; the pressure by morals, values, customs, mores etc. Super ego and ID are most of the time two opposing forces acting against each other. So the demands of both are not sustainable at a given instant. But suppose, the expectations of my ID meets with the expectations and demands of my super ego and I fulfill them then I get peace. I get peace because my Id is not suppressed rather flourished. But it is only a necessary condition not a sufficient one. The necessary condition is Id is flourished within the ambit of super ego.

Ego:- Now ego is in between the two. Here the id is suppressed to some extent and Super ego is not fully flourished. It is like a compromise between the two. Here I get satisfaction but neither I am very happy with myself nor am I at peace with myself. I only satisfy something.

This is my weird explanation for the above three words.
