First of all let us see how 'stoic' does not belong to this group of synonyms:stoic is a person who has great self-control, who bears pain and discomfort without complaint. The words 'adamant' and 'stubborn' are more or less identical in meaning and have negative connotation. Being unyielding and strongly steady are positive stands, noble and praiseworthy. But stubborn and obstinate get compared to mules and donkeys, unreasoning beasts!

I agree,
Obstinate can be a good word to discuss. Let me edit the subject.
