Well..i dont see any merits in Islam! One of the recent incident in Karnataka again proves my point. All those islamic fanatics demonstrated a big agitation against Taslima for her article. Do we see any such agitations against the atrocities happens in the name of Islam?

I thought that the author was too harsh and blatant. Talking ill against a religion is like abusing one's parent. While being judgmental about various aspects of a faith one needs to be very gentle and subtle as one is when it is directed towards a parent.
If Islam may be propagating practices and beliefs that is socially irrelevant now so was the Hindu religion. Sati, child remarriage, dowry were rampant. The emergence of a more liberalized school of thought that managed to influence people and reform a lot of these social evils and also an inherent internal democracy that exists within the Hindus the transition happened peacefully. Change is inevitable, the faster one realizes it the better.

well, I am not inclined comment on the statics of crime rate prevalent in Muslim population over the world. But being a very practical person I can say what I think about marriage- it is a sensible, well-weighed, lifetime contract. I have little fancy for the phenomenon called 'love'. I believe in love blossoming and flourishing after marriage its fragrance and beauty being enhanced by commitment and responsibility. As such there are many prerequisites for the marriage to prove a success. Compatibility matters a lot- not only between the couple but between both the families. I have little respect for the new trend of 'you for me, I for you, nobody else matters'. We cannot easily shake off what our upbringing, ancestry have inculcated into our mind and behavioural patterns. AND domestic peace matters a lot in a man and woman's life together. The girl was wrong in her choice and has no reason to complain. There rests my case.

@ Santosh,

The author's intention is telling same, the practice of beliefs and rigid structures which are irrelevant now. Of, course parents can be wrong also. Like you said our past generations were followers of Sati system and they were wrong in their act.

On a deeper level, Its the psychology and the behavior of the people following the religion and this psychology is born out of the teaching of religion, beliefs and code of conduct.

If we consider the Buddhist religion, the followers are by large peaceful, calm and docile in nature because similar teaching are reflected in their religion.

Similarly, as the author mentions the follower of Islam are angry, depressive, shy, violent, manic, narcissistic, obsessive, compulsive, possessive, procrastinator, paranoid, histrionic, bully, dependent, or abusive"

Though this may be quite exaggerated of the things but more or less these holds true.

Islam is the perpetrators of most terrorist activities, crime rates are high, population density is extremely high in Islam countries, women empowerment is almost nil.

All the statistics justify the points mentioned by the author.
