Do parents have selfish motives? 2 Years ago Karma: -1
Almost every action a normal human being executes have some selfish motive. Some are not visible on the surface deep inside we can see the selfish motive. On the same lines do humans some some selfish motives when they plan to be parents?

Is it for the security in the old age?
Is it to beat the loneliness in the old age?
Is it to see their children as a person which is ideal as their terms?
Is it to feel proud to maintain the continuity of their lineage?

For security in old age is becoming a myth in these global days; increasingly loneliness in old age is becoming unavoidable! we are a standing example!
Desire to see an ideal 'product' is absolutely normal/natural; nothing selfish in it! Continuing the lineage is the very purpose of Nature itself, is it not? Pride in flesh and blood relations makes life meaningful, the early struggles( and later ones too) more meanigful, satisfying and worthy. It would be rather perverse to interpret hormonal/natural/biological/intelligent parental motives as selfish!

@ Ppmani Mam,

For security in old age is becoming a myth in these global days; increasingly loneliness in old age is becoming unavoidable

The situation is inevitable for this generation. The situation will deteriorate more with children opting to live under different roofs (after being stable, independent and married) even if they all parties reside in same place. Its just the increasing independency/freedom this generation seeks and this demand increases with age (esp after marriage) and then starts to decrease (after mid-life). Are parents ready with the consequences and mentally prepared before parenthood? What would be their feelings if their sole child leaves/abandons them after he becomes independent.

I guess there's a confusion between helplessness (the present scenario of this generation parents and working children in different cities) in the old age and selfishness (their thoughts and aspirations before they are parents) of the parents. We are trying to evaluate the thoughts/aim/ambitions of the humans before they are parents. Or is it purely selfless act with no aspirations/thoughts from their children in the future?

Are children mere products, and parents being their owner who can direct their product on the wish of their idealism? If there's the tendency in the owner's mind to change the product towards perfection (I mean against the wish of product) then it cant be termed as selfless act on the part of parents.

Are the parents ready to let their children (say after a particular age) carve an independent identity without any wish to change/interfere/direct or any aspirations of support from them at old age?

The global impact can be felt in this sphere also, I should say. We no more 'cling' to direct blood relations. A sort of 'independence' is felt, the children become self-dependent, self-reliant sooner now than in the previous generations like in the west. Learning to live in creches, hostels later- a new, modern trend in this century- give little space for sentimental attachment. A token, showy attachment for prestige- being practical- is observed. This being the situation the issues have no issue with their parents in pursuing courses of their choice. The autocracy of the parents is dwindling! The youth who are prospective parents have very clear ideas about parenthood role and duties which have no resemblance to those of their parents! Today's young parents are wide awake to a lonely self-dependent old age for themselves, I am sure.

The more I see or read about ABORTION of female foetus the more I get convinced that parents increasingly wish for some kind of security/income in the form of male child.

This is a pure selfish attempt on the part of the parents.

You'll be shocked to learn that increasingly it is the girls' parents who are getting the upper hand!!! They demand and dictate! The tables are being turned. Result of increasing women's economic independence got through education and employment. Gone are the days of proud parents of male children!
