Book Review - Empire of the Moghul: Raiders from the NorthPDFPrintE-mail

The Book at Hand:

One cannot judge a book by its cover, but one sure can get fascinated enough to buy it from the stores. That's how I came across Alex Rutherford's Empire of the Moghul: Raiders from the North. The royal battle-axe with intricate design on a dark bloody crimson cover was just the kind of thing I was looking for. A quick skim through the first chapter at the store was enough to promise a good reading experience, tempting me to put the softcover edition into my cart. To be completely frank, I had started to expect something from the book that my school textbooks did not provide; the book did not disappoint. The first in the quintet, this book did leave me with a craving for the rest of the series.

You can refer Retailing in India - Part 1 also.

With the entry of the Multi National Companies like Wal Mart, Adidas, McDonalds, General Electrics, Carrefour the retail market has started growing faster and along with it has been able to generate more employment among the youth. The more the investment, the more is the growth of the retail sector and more is the employment opportunity. With the introduction of retail sector the concept of floor management, event management, hospitality management, logistic management, visual merchandising, warehouse management and many others have come up. Increasing number of graduates opt for a foothold in the retail sector through different management programs and the institutions are including new courses in their curriculum to train people for such professions. The whole thing works like a well oiled machine.

Retrospective Application to Penal Laws ??? JustificationPDFPrintE-mail

Are Laws with penal consequences susceptible to retrospective application ?…the answer is in negative for reasons more than one, the essentiality of a right of protection from laws with retrospective application is accepted without argument, in light of well established judicially professed maxim “Nullum crimen, nulla poena sine praevia lege poenali” which when translated means ‘No crime, no punishment without a previous penal law” a principle devised & appearing first, way back in 1789 and widely accepted by civilized jurisdictions around the world, recognizing that – making an act, a crime retrospectively after it is done is prime facie of questionable policy and contrary to the general principle that legislation by which the conduct of mankind is to be regulated ought…. to deal with future acts and ought not to change the character of past transactions carried on upon the faith of the then existing law…” and furthermore the history is devoid of any justification for the same, & the same bears testimony to the fact that whenever force has been given to such laws, it has resulted in gross miscarriage of justice.

Movie Review: Toy Story 3PDFPrintE-mail

Although my brother feels that the movie was a yawn-a-rooney, I will differ significantly, naming Toy Story 3 one of the best pieces of animation to come out of Pixar Studios. A suiting third part to a great series, Toy Story 3 does not disappoint the viewer, as has been the case with other movie series, wherein the third part loses the charm that the previous two movies have built. This movie which was dubbed Pixar's great gamble, has paid off big time in the Box Office, beating the last record holder, Shrek 3, with a total income of $41,148,961 on its opening day at the box office from 4,028 theaters. So, what makes this movie such a success?

The Uncommon Reader - Book ReviewPDFPrintE-mail

Smart and Funny!

Book - The Uncommon Reader

Author - Alan Bennett

Alan Bennett's hypothetical take on the Queen of England's all-of-a-sudden obsession with reading, and its repercussions on her life, is concise and hilarious.

The plot revolves around how the Queen, quite unexpectedly and to everyone's utter dismay, develops a hobby- Reading. Alan Bennett traces the rather soporific life of the Queen and how it transforms subsequent to her new passion. In fact, he is audacious enough to claim how reading makes the Queen a much better human being, how it turns her from inconsiderate to compassionate, especially when it comes to her interactions with the lesser mortals!

Ruminations on DivinityPDFPrintE-mail

The existence of God, or Divinity; has been affirmed, denied, debated over and indoctrinated for almost as long as civilization itself. Although the finer details have undergone manifold changes over the millennia, the basic essentials remain the same:

“There exists a human-like force or being, which/who created this entire Universe, governs it, and if need so arises, can change it.”

The Test of Courage is Not to Die, But to LivePDFPrintE-mail

Fear. Probably the worst emotion any person could ever have to deal with. And ‘courage’ is the antonym that we give for it in the English language.

What then, is courage? Is it the absolute absence of fear? No, readers, it isn’t. It’s all about feeling fear, but refusing to give in to it. It’s about living, as opposed to merely existing. Courage is to seize life by its reins and shaping it, and not letting it shape you.

Television Show: Supernatural

Bad ass! That’s the first phrase that comes to mind when I think of the TV Show, Supernatural. Originally debuting in 2005 on the WB Network, it is now part of the CW’s line-up.

The show follows the lives of two brothers, Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) Winchester as they battle all sorts of evil beings: everything from ghosts to werewolves to demons.

Litigation

The word ‘Litigation’ in common parlance is used to refer to a controversy before a law court or simply put a ‘lawsuit’, but with the total pendency at last count exceeding 30 million cases, in a country characterized by grave economic conditions like ours it has become a luxury which few can afford.

Last night a video tape mailed to our head office playing a message from Osama bin Laden confirmed that he’s still alive and active...it included Osama in an AK-47 background claiming that England’s performance was frustrating and appalling last night ....although the tape seems fresh and recent...but British Intelligence has dismissed the claim, stating that the message could have been recorded anytime in last 44 years..!!”

This is one of the thousand bullets that was fired against England by the British media after being thrashed by Germany last Sunday, but it was Frank Lampard’s disallowed goal which dominated the news channels (instead of devastating German counter attack) renouncing the age old soccer Vs Technology battle which has become the central feature of pub discussions and television sensation.
